California legislators moved forward with a proposal that would effectively ban Glock pistols and Glock clones, if enacted.
The proposal, AB-1127, doesn’t explicitly name Glock but its description does point to the popular pistol brand.

If passed, it would prevent FFLs from selling semi-automatic “machine gun-convertible pistols” with a cruciform trigger bar that can be converted into a full-auto firearm with the installation of aftermarket parts like a switch or 3D printed accessory. A cruciform trigger bar is an essential component in Glock pistols and clones – therefore, the bill is effectively a Glock ban.

Though Glock has never endorsed these switches, and unregistered switches are already illegal under the National Firearms Act, legislators in favor of the bill say this will protect Californians.
“Automatic weapons are exceptionally lethal and capable of firing hundreds of rounds per minute. They are illegal in California. Unfortunately, some semi-automatic firearms feature a dangerous design flaw that allows them to be converted to fully automatic weapons through an attachment of a cheap and easy-to-use device, known as a switch,” bill author Jesse Gabriel (D-Encino) stated during an Assembly Standing Committee hearing, as reported by Fox 40.

The bill was brought to life in February 2025, easily passing its first committee hearing in May. From there, it made its way to to the state Assembly in June. From there, the bill found itself in the California Senate Judiciary where it passed without issue in an 11-2 vote last week.
If enacted, the penalty for violating the ban would start at a $1,000 fine for dealers and top out as a misdemeanor charge and mandatory revocation of the dealer’s license.
Gun rights activists are calling the proposed ban an assault on gun owners.

“AB 1127 is a blatant attack on your right to own one of the most common self-defense firearms in America,” Gun Owners of California posted on Facebook. “This bill targets semiautomatic pistols used by millions of law-abiding gun owners—and it’s being pushed under the false pretense of ‘safety’.”
Gun Owners of California has said that if the bill does ultimately make it into law, the group plans to challenge it in court.
