The Sig Sauer P938 brings the beloved 1911 ergonomics into a small, easy-to-conceal package. At only 1.1 inches wide, the P938 is slim and easy to handle. A crisp single-action only trigger helps produce accuracy that is outstanding for a pistol of its size. The stainless steel slide and all-metal frame make the gun feel handle like a larger pistol without feeling bulky or overly large. With a 7+1 capacity, the P938 isn’t far off in capacity of its larger 9mm 1911 brethren but is small enough to be carried comfortably all day.
The Rock Island Armory 1911 GI Standard MS (Mid-Size) is a commander-length 1911 that stays true to the original GI combat-issued 1911s of the past. Its shorter 4.25-inch barrel helps keep the gun more compact and concealable while still retaining the accuracy the 1911 is known for. The GI Standard MS holds 8+1 rounds of .45 ACP and comes with a crisp 4-6 pound trigger, wood grips, low profile GI sights, and a smooth parkerized finish.
The Colt Government Series 70 is based on the original 1911 without the passive firing pin safety. These Government models feature a series 70 firing system, a 5-inch forged stainless steel barrel, short trigger, spur hammer, checkered grips, GI-style sights, and a CNC-machined forged stainless slide and frame. While these are new production Colt guns, they maintain the classic styling and design that makes the 1911 so popular.
The Kimber 2K11 Target is Kimber’s first foray into the double-stack (a.k.a. 2011) arena. While it’s a beautiful pistol with a crisp trigger and excellent ergonomics, it’s not without issue. During our testing, it struggled to go into battery on a few occasions. Also, our large-handed shooters struggled with accidentally riding the slide stop. As an expensive race gun, this was disappointing. We diagnosed the out-of-battery issues as the gun possibly being undersprung, but it’s something to keep in mind. Overall, we had fun shooting it despite the issues.
The HK P30L is the next evolution in HK’s long lineup of hammer-fired pistols.
