Editor’s Note: Springfield's latest iteration of the 1911 TRP (Tactical Response Pistol) brought some welcome upgrades to an already loved line of pistols. Exacting fitment, aggressive grip texturing, optics-ready options, and premium materials put these 1911s firmly in the "semi-custom" bracket. You are getting much of the look and feel of a custom 1911, thanks to the hand-fitting process the TRPs undergo. If you are looking for a high-end 1911 without crossing the $2,000 threshold, the 1911 TRPs are some of the better options.

By The Numbers

Accuracy
Quality ammo will yield 2" groups at 25 yards if you do your part.
Reliability
Three out of four TRPs we tested did seem to need about a 250-round break-in period before they ran 100%.
Customization
The 1911 enjoys a wide aftermarket, but the TRP has most of what you need out of the box.
Ergonomics
1911 ergonomics are tough to beat. The grip angle is amazing, but the grip texture may be too aggressive for some people.
Value
The features and accuracy are there, but some of Springfield's cheaper offerings have very close performance for half the price.
