Smith & Wesson has really been on a hot streak with the M&P FPC series. We can pick from 9mm, .40 S&W (naturally), 10mm, and now .22 LR.
Is this the coolest FPC release yet?

Before you answer that, I should add that this is a two-parter. Smith & Wesson also just announced the M&P 22X, a .22 LR pistol.
Let’s dive in and check out the new Smith & Wesson M&P FPC and 22X.

The newest M&P FPC is aimed less at self defense and more at good, clean range-day fun. Recoil is basically nonexistent, so you’ll have no trouble burning through those 20-round magazines (check out our favorite .22 LR ammo while you’re here).
Smith & Wesson ships this carbine with three magazines, and you can carry all three on the FPC itself; one in the magazine well and two in the stock.
As with the other FPC models, this one folds in half, making it an excellent backpack or truck gun. The handguard features a Picatinny rail and M-LOK for accessories like a light and red dot.

If you like having a portable .22 LR rifle handy for pests, plinking, or affordable training sessions, the featherweight FPC is a no-brainer.
Smith & Wesson lists an MSRP of $549 for the .22 LR M&P FPC, and I’ve seen retail prices consistently under $500.
But wait, there’s more!

Smith & Wesson M&P 22X Specs & Features
Specs
- Caliber: .22 LR
- Action: Semi-automatic, blowback
- Capacity: 20+1
- Barrel Length: 4.1”
- Overall Length: 7.25”
- Weight: 16 oz
- Country of Origin: USA
- MSRP: $499
Features
- Threaded barrel
- Fiber optic front sight and optic-ready slide
- Ambidextrous thumb safety
The main attraction here is the ability to use the same magazines with the M&P FPC and M&P 22X. That’s not all, though.

The M&P 22X also features a fiber optic front sight, an optic-ready slide, and an accessory rail. The thumb safety is ambidextrous and the magazine is reversible, so the pistol is lefty-friendly.
The threaded barrel sits flush with the slide, but the pistol ships with an adapter so you can add a suppressor.

This time, you get two 20-round magazines instead of three. State-compliant 10-round versions are also available.
Smith & Wesson lists an MSRP of $449 for the M&P 22X.
