Range your target, check the wind, dial your scope turrets, and make the shot.
In simple terms, that’s how shooting at a distance usually works. There are technological shortcuts, though.
The latest is the Maztech X4 system, available through Magpul. It’s not the first or only system of its kind, but it has some nifty tricks up its sleeve that will make you much faster and more accurate – if you have the dough to buy it.

The Maztech X4-FCS is one half of the system. It’s a 30-millimeter scope mount with onboard sensors and a display that should work with most LPVOs.
The base of the mount houses an onboard compass, thermometer, air pressure gauge, and humidity gauge.

When used in conjunction with a rangefinder and a custom bullet profile in the Maztech Companion app, the onboard Applied Ballistics software will display an accurate point of aim that you can see through your LPVO.
Don’t want to dial in your own distance? There’s another gadget you need to see.

The Maztech X4-LRF rangefinder mounts to your rifle’s Picatinny rail so you can range targets without coming off the glass.
There are two models. The 2K variant uses a 905-nanometer laser to accurately range targets out to 2,000 meters. The 15K variant uses a 1,594-nanometer laser to reach out to 15,000 meters – oh, and it’s invisible to night vision optics.
Both versions come with two aiming lasers: red visible and infrared.Â
The X4-LRF also features Applied Ballistics software and sensors for motion and environmental factors.

The display (which is visible with polarized glasses – nice touch) lets you use the X4-LRF on its own, or you can pair it with the X4-FCS.
Together, the two components will range a target, calculate a ballistic solution, and deliver the correct point of aim to your LPVO.
Naturally, there are remotes, cables, and a diving board Picatinny mount available, too.
It sounds like science fiction, but this kind of technology has been commercially available for a while. The option to get into it without tossing your existing LPVO is good news, though, and it’s nice to have the option to only buy one of the components if that’s all you want.
Maztech sells the X4 system through Magpul. The X4-FCS sells for $3,495, and prices for the for the X4-LRF start at $2,195.
That’s a lot of money for recreational shooting, but it makes sense for competitive shooters who need to shoot accurately at long range faster than the rest of the field.
