When I visited Springfield Armory’s booth at SHOT Show 2025, I got a sneaking suspicion that this would be a quiet year. Consider me corrected.
Just a few weeks after pulling the cover off the Kuna PDW, Springfield is back with a new gun – this time it’s a snazzy bolt-action rifle.
The Springfield Armory Model 2020 Heatseeker takes the brand’s flagship bolt gun into the world of modular chassis systems with a full suite of up-spec components.
Let’s peek under the hood of this thing.

The heart of this new rifle is Springfield’s Model 2020 action. It’s a stainless steel unit that contains a fluted bolt with a removable bolt knob and a 90-degree throw. Up top sits a Picatinny rail for easy optic mounting.

The proven action is mated to a billet aluminum Sharps Bros. Heatseeker chassis that weighs – ahem – 1.2 pounds. That includes an M-LOK handguard and mounting points for an AR-style buffer tube and grip.
In this case, that furniture comes from B5 Systems. The B5 Systems CPS stock is adjustable for length of pull and comb height without tools.

Ammunition comes from a five-round AICS magazine, and you can choose to shoot 6.5 Creedmoor or .308 Win/7.62 NATO.
The trigger is an adjustable unit (2.5 to 5 lbs) from TriggerTech. I can personally vouch for this one – it’s excellent.

The carbon fiber-wrapped barrel is just 16 inches long to keep weight and overall length to a minimum, even with a suppressor.
Springfield Armory lists an MSRP of $2,355 for the Model 2020 Heatseeker.

That’s not pocket change, but looking at this rifle gives me lots of ideas. I could shoot long range with that little number, for sure. I’d also be more than happy to strap that to my pack for a backcountry hunt.
The more jobs you give it, the more affordable it becomes. Gun math is real, right?
