If you ask people what the toughest, most reliable pistol optic is, many of them will answer in just three letters: RMR.
Unfortunately, the famous pistol optic didn’t work for everyone. Some people have difficulty seeing a red reticle. Others live in areas where red doesn’t provide adequate contrast or brightness.
Despair no more, because the Trijicon RMR Type 2 green dot is finally here.

New for 2025 is a green 3.25-MOA reticle.
If you have astigmatism, this may be significantly easier for you to see than a red reticle. Green tends to be brighter than red, which helps in extremely bright conditions. Depending on your environment, it may also offer better contrast.
After a few pre-launch range sessions, I can confirm that this is the RMR we know and love. It’s made from rugged 7075-T6 aluminum with that funky, horned shape that shrugs off impacts. A pair of holes allows water to drain rather than covering the open emitter.
This is an RMR Type 2 Adjustable, which means there are buttons to control brightness settings – six for daylight and two that are night-vision compatible.
After 16.5 hours of inactivity, the optic will switch out of manual mode and into automatic mode to conserve battery life. Typically, you’re looking at about two years on a single battery (but CR2032 batteries are cheap, so I replace mine every year and reconfirm my zero).
Button lockout prevents the brightness setting from changing accidentally, like when you’re carrying concealed and bump the side of the optic.

Another Type 2 upgrade over the original RMR is improved electronics and battery contacts that help the optic hold up to recoil and impacts better.
Trijicon lists an MSRP of $810 for the RMR Type 2 green dot.
