This news comes right in the middle of, shall we say, a bit of a shakeup in the world of guns you’re allowed to own in California. You win some and lose some, but this is definitely a win for Californians.

First up is the Echelon 4.5F – the first Echelon to hit the market. It’s a full-size pistol with a 4.5-inch barrel and plenty of real estate for larger hands.
Normally it comes with 17- and 20-round magazines, but California-compliant models get a pair of 10-round mags. This version also has the telltale, “Loaded when out” label below the extractor on the slide.
The adaptive grip texture, Central Operating Group, and awesome Variable Interface System remain from the original Echelon.

Looking for something more carry-friendly? If you’ve managed to obtain CCW permit, the compact Echelon 4.0C is a more portable option.
The list of features is the same, it just has a shorter grip and slide. It’s also a little more manageable for people with smaller hands.

Think of this as a more feature-rich alternative to the Glock 19. It’s small enough to carry, but large enough to serve as a duty or home-defense gun.
Since California caps magazines to 10 rounds, you don’t even give up capacity to the larger Echelon.
Perhaps the most exciting news is that Californians can get in on the new comped models, the Echelon 4.5F Comp and Echelon 4.0C Comp.
These pistols have a port cut into the barrel and slide that significantly reduces felt recoil and muzzle rise for faster, more comfortable shooting.

Springfield Armory lists an MSRP of $694 for the Echelon 4.5F and Echelon 4.0C, and $765 for the Echelon 4.5F Comp and Echelon 4.0C Comp.
