If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
The Ruger 10/22 has been around since 1964, and it’s sold more than 10 million rifles. You could say it’s just about perfect – and many have.
There’s always room for improvement, though, and Ruger just announced changes to the 10/22 going forward. Don’t worry, these are more like tweaks than sweeping changes to a beloved firearm.
Let’s get into the details.

This update graces the 10/22 Standard with features previously reserved for higher-end 10/22 models.
First up is Ruger’s BX-Trigger – now standard on all, well, Standard 10/22 carbines and rifles. Expect a crisp break, reduced overtravel, and a firm reset compared to the trigger that used to come on basic-trim 10/22s.
The BX-Trigger has been one of our favorite 10/22 triggers for a long time, and it’s great to see it become more accessible.

The bolt release is also upgraded to Ruger’s match bolt release. This means you can chamber the first round of a fresh magazine by quickly pulling and releasing the bolt handle, rather than fiddling with the little tab-style bolt release in front of the trigger guard.
The last change is a new stock that’s lighter and more convenient than the outgoing Standard stock. Perks include more aggressive texturing, M-LOK slots at the 6-o’clock position on the forend, and sling swivels molded into the polymer forend and buttstock.

Right now, 10/22s receiving these updates include carbines and rifles with black or stainless steel barrels, and scoped variants that come with a Viridian EON 3-9×40 mounted from the factory.
Ruger has not listed any price changes as a result of these upgrades.

Putting the M-Lok on the 6 o'clock part where it's sloping upward and not parallel to the barrel was an interesting decision...
