Pros
- Improved ergonomics over previous generations
- Direct mount for optics
- Same Glock reliability as expected
Cons
- Trigger is still meh
The Bottom Line
The Gen 6 Glock 19 is an upgrade to previous generations while still keeping to the classic G19 performance. It's a great option for those looking for an all-around Glock that can move from home defense to concealed carry with ease.
Specs
- Caliber: 9mm
- Barrel Length: 4″
- Overall Length: 7.28″
- Width: 1.34″
- Weight: 23.63 oz
- Capacity: 15+1
The Glock 19 is the most popular Glock for a reason.
This midsize model is versatile and easily transitions from home to the range to concealed carry with its double-stack design.

It’s in wide use in the law enforcement realm and, like most Glock products, is renowned for its ease of use and reliability.
Not to mention, the 9mm chambering means that, in non-ammo shortage scenarios, you should be able to easily train with it alongside its standard 15-round magazine. The G19 also benefits from a wealth of aftermarket support, so you can switch sights, triggers, and slides if you so choose.
While its blocky ergonomics aren’t for everyone, it is a solid, reliable pistol — perfect for CCW. Not to mention, its popularity means there’s no lack of holsters available. I carried the Glock 19, Gen 4, for almost a decade before switching to a Glock clone with a slightly better trigger.
For me, the Glock 19 excels at the “do everything” category, and it’s the best option for those who want one gun to rule them all.

While Glock has nixed Gens 3-5 in favor of the new Gen 6, you can still find the older generations on the used market.

That said, the PPT team tested the Gen 6 and found its ergonomics slightly better than previous generations.

Pros
- Largest size and capacity
- Great for home defense
- Works with a variety of aftermarket mags
Cons
- Ergonomics aren't the greatest
- Often has a cheap feel
The Bottom Line
The Glock 17 is the OG model and perfect for home defense. It's larger size helps mitigate recoil while boosting capacity to 17+1 (more if you opt for extended mags). Like all other Glocks its factory sights and triggers are meh, but there's plenty of aftermarket parts to fix that.
Specs
- Caliber: 9mm
- Barrel Length: 4.5″
- Overall Length: 8″
- Width: 1.34″
- Weight: 24.97 oz
- Capacity: 17+1
The Glock 17 was the first Glock to hit the market back in the 1980s.
It’s enjoyed continued success over the years, mainly because it’s great for duty and home defense.

The G17 is the largest of the 9mm Glocks, and that size difference allows it to pack more rounds for an increased capacity of 17+1. But you can always up that with aftermarket extended magazines. (Drum mag, anyone??)

The Glock 17 is the gold standard for most law enforcement, and its reliability has made it a winner in the civilian market as well. It features the same reliability and durability as all Glock models, but also suffers from the same underwhelming trigger and plastic sights. Again, easy fixes with aftermarket parts.

I use the Glock 17 as my preferred bedside pistol because the full-size build helps mitigate some recoil, and it’s got plenty of room for accessories like lights.
Speaking of upgrades, if you opt for a non-MOS version but you want a red dot (highly recommend!), you can use C&H Precision’s Slide Milling Service to get your slide ready for a red dot.
We’ve used the service before on a CZ, and it turned out great. (Check out the video below to see the after!)
3. Best for Concealed Carry – Glock 43X MOS

Pros
- Slim build is perfect for CCW
- Simple and easy to use
- MOS versions come ready for optics
Cons
- Snappier recoil
- Lower capacity for its size
The Bottom Line
The Glock 43X MOS introduces a compact build perfect for concealed carry. With the Glock name behind it, there's no shortage of holsters either! The G43X MOS is optics-ready and sticks to Glock's reliability, but in a much easier to conceal format.
Specs
- Caliber: 9mm
- Barrel Length: 3.4″
- Overall Length: 6.5″
- Width: 1.1″
- Weight: 18.7 oz
- Capacity: 10+1
If the Glock you need is only for concealed carry, then the Glock 43X MOS is the best suited for that job.

Its subcompact style means that it easily slips into holsters for easy carrying all day. Better yet, the MOS means that it’s optics-ready, so you can toss on your favorite red dot. (If you need some suggestions, we have a full round-up of our favorite, hands-on tested pistol red dots!)
The Glock 43X MOS sports the Glock Marksmen Barrel and promises to improve accuracy. While we’ve never had any issues with accuracy on older gen Glocks, this might be a selling point for some.

The most notable change in the Glock 43X MOS (over its predecessor, the Glock 43) is that this model’s grip has been altered so that you can now get a full three-finger grip on the gun without a magazine. This means a better overall grip for most shooters.

4. Best for Summer Carry – Glock 42

Pros
- Super compact and concealable
- Easy to shoot and handle
Cons
- Only 6 round capacity
The Bottom Line
The Glock 42 is a great gun for warmer months where clothes are less conducive to carry. It only holds 6+1 rounds, but if you grab some spare mags, you'll be set.
Specs
- Caliber: .380 ACP
- Barrel Length: 3.25″
- Overall Length: 5.94″
- Width: 0.98″
- Weight: 13.76 oz
- Capacity: 6+1
So you need something even smaller than the Glock 43X MOS for the warmer months? The Glock 42 is an ultra-compact pistol designed for concealed carry — this is your summer gun!

The G42 comes chambered in .380 ACP, which means there’s little to no recoil while shooting, and that smaller round means a smaller gun overall.
The trade-off for such a small handgun, though, is capacity. In the case of the G42, that means 6 rounds. Probably want to stock up on the spare mags…

It keeps to Glock’s easy-to-shoot-and-maintain platform and brings that durability you’ve come to expect from the Glock brand.
5. Best for Training – Glock 44

Pros
- Great for training
- Familiar Glock design makes it perfect for training at the range
Cons
- Has been known to crack
- Feels cheap
The Bottom Line
The Glock 44 is great for those committed to the rimfire round OR who want a training platform that is super cheap to shoot but familiar.
Specs
- Caliber: .22 LR
- Barrel Length: 4.02″
- Overall Length: 7.28″
- Width: 1.26″
- Weight: 14.64 oz
- Capacity: 10+1
Ok, so I know the Glock 44 is controversial. I’m sorry to all the fanbois who wanted a Glock PCC but instead got a .22 LR. Don’t throw hate at me.
The G44 burst onto the scene with a .22 LR chambering. According to the company, they wanted to introduce a gun specifically for first-time gun owners and those who put in a lot of training reps at the range.

Mimicking the size of the Glock 19, the Glock 44 comes with a 4.02-inch barrel and an overall length of 7.28 inches. Loaded with its standard 10 rounds, it weighs 16.40 ounces.
While you most likely won’t be packing this in your IWB holster, the G44’s strength comes from the fact that you can easily plink with it.

Normally, .22 LR ammo is cheap and easy to find, making this gun a perfect training companion.
Not to mention, the .22 LR has virtually no recoil, so first-timers will find this comfortable and less intimidating to shoot.

FAQs
If the thought of a 9mm scares you, the Glock 44 rimfire is a good starting Glock. If, however, you’re ready to use a 9mm, we recommend the Glock 19. It’s an all-around winner that can work for home defense or can be put in a holster for carry. That said, if you just want a gun for carry, the Glock 43X MOS is the best.
Both the G17 and G19 are solid guns, but the Glock 17 is better suited for home defense as it’s larger in size. For concealed carry, the Glock 19 is the better choice since it offers the same capacity, but in a more compact, midsize frame that is easier to carry.
The new Gen 6 has better ergonomics than previous generations, so if you find the current Glocks (Gen 3-5) lacking, then it’s worth it to upgrade to the newest Gen 6.
The Glock 43X is an upgrade to the standard G43. It offers better ergonomics and an optics-ready slide (if you go for the MOS) version, which means you can add a red dot.
Final Thoughts
Glock’s reliability and durability are a thing of legend.
Whether you’re looking for a bedside pistol or a compact carry gun, there’s a Glock for you.

How We Tested the Best Glocks
To determine which Glocks made our list, we used a protocol that prioritized reliability, accuracy, recoil, durability, features, and value.
Since most Glocks adhere to the same reliability, accuracy, and durability standards, we heavily focused on features and overall value given each category.

Each pistol in this article has spent hands-on time with a member of Pew Pew Tactical’s team. It has been thoroughly evaluated with at least 3 kinds of ammunition and a minimum of two magazines (1 factory, 1 aftermarket).
Every pistol tested at PPT sees a minimum of 500 rounds of ammunition put through it, starting at 7 yards and backing up to 25-50 yards – though most of the Glocks listed here have seen 1,000+ rounds over several years of shooting.

A Ransom Rest is used to test accuracy and remove shooter error, while other tools, like a digital caliper, chronograph, and Lyman Digital Trigger Gauge are also used to ensure accurate metrics while shooting.
When shooting, our team mixes it up between accuracy-based shooting and drills like the Bill Drill, Reload Drill, and Strong and Weak-Hand Shooting.

For ergonomics, our team looks at features that might impact how the gun feels while shooting. We also consult with range buddies, family members, and other PPT staff to get input on ergonomics from different hand sizes.

Pew Pew Tactical Editor-in-Chief Jacki Billings researched and wrote this article. Jacki has spent over a decade in the shooting sports space as a freelance writer, staff writer, and editor. She also runs our expert team and frequently contributes to content here at Pew Pew Tactical — especially where concealed carry is concerned. Though Jacki’s first gun was a Walther P22, she quickly moved up to a Glock 17 for home defense, then, later, to a Glock 19 for concealed carry. She carried a G19 for years, using it to help teach National Rifle Association Basic Pistol Courses and concealed carry courses. Though she has since migrated away from carrying a Glock daily, the Glock 17 still serves as her bedside pistol.

I love Glocks.
I hate Glocks.
I love ‘em cause you can go through a case of ammo and not clean the damned thing… and it still shoots.
I hate ‘em because they have crappy triggers. They're ugly, too. They all look the same. No personality.
I love them because you can find an Elite Tactical Systems 40-round magazine. Imagine the looks I got open-carrying a holstered Glock with a 40-round magazine inserted. Local sheriff deputy asked if I was expecting trouble. “Coyotes” I replied. He nodded. “Yep.”
I hate ‘em.
Glock 17 best for home defense? Really? A 9mm for home defense? How about a Glock 21 Gen 5 in .45 auto?
You should read reports of law enforcement members being killed by assailants they’ve shot 8 or more times with a 9mm. You certainly don’t read about an assailant who was shot with a .45 Auto killing a policeman or woman.
The 21 has 13+1 capacity — and if you can’t solve your problem with 3 rounds, you shouldn’t be using a firearm. Really!
When making these selections, I tailor it to what works for most people and also balance things like ammo availability and price. 9mm has a proven track record for defensive encounters, not to mention, it's easy to find and more affordable. On top of that, recoil is pretty easy to mitigate, which is important for newcomers and beginners. That's why I recommended the G17 as a home defense, because it meets those criteria. If .45 ACP works for you, that's awesome!
I agree with you. While I’m astounded that PewPew doesn’t recommend using a .45 for self-defense (especially in the home), it’s not much of a shock that they doggedly persist in selling the idea that a submunition works just as well. Is it a matter of thinking that the recoil is too much? Notice that they don’t EVER mention .40S&W, which to me has more recoil than the .45 Auto [I switched from the Glock 22 to a G41 Gen 5 with a Timney Alpha Competition Trigger (nice crisp trigger with a 3-something pull) for that reason]. The evolution of 9mm ammunition has improved the ballistics, but for a pistol that you’re unlikely to carry concealed if you’re of normal stature, the G41 Gen 5 is the better way to go.
The PewPew people are all about promoting firearms, accessories, hardware, and bling — not about common sense. Using a submunition for home defense is a risky calculus, as a submunition will likely not have the stopping power in a deadly attack — and every round fired in a situation where the defender is far less likely to have fine motor control is one more round that may miss, overpenetrate, or ricochet off a dense bone and cause the loss of innocent life, bystanders, or neighbors. Going to a larger round makes far more sense, but then again, PewPew doesn’t operate at that level.
Replying to your own comments and complimenting yourself from different fake accounts is probably my favorite thing you do. Thanks for the engagement!
Chris, buddy, make your own site then if you think ours sucks. Nothing is stopping you. Probably be a whole lot more productive than lambasting every article with comments meant to stroke your own ego. Get out there, champ, and put your skills to the test. (Also, it's Pew Pew...if you're going to criticize us, at least get our name right.)
You missed a major point on the Glock 43X MOS. Shield Arms makes an after market flush fit 15 round mag. Gives you Glock 19 capacity in a micro-compact.
Retired leo here, I carried a g23 for years, then graduated to the g27 now i am retired i carry the g27, or g42 most of the time, I have and love the g19's along with several other calibers, g30sf, g26, g19
Why do you refer to Vendors that supposedly have the guns in stock and they don’t (e.g. - Grabagun)
Hey Scott, a lot of times there is stock when we first pull the article together but by the time it publishes, that can change. We do our best to keep that up to date, but it's manual so sometimes we can't keep up.
I have large hands, but the best Glock I’ve ever shot to this day is a Glock 26 with Clock 19 magazines with a slip on over the space. It’s the most natural shooter for me easiest and most accurate for me. I’ve ever owned. I don’t feel that way about the 40 the G2 seven I do about the G 26 I don’t know what it is but anytime.
Glock is the DC3 of Firearms. Ok its not sexy it utilitarian but ya know...they work. even idiots can use it...hence I assume its consistent use by federal state and local public safety. It is without a doubt the best gun you can get as long as you plan on replacing every part on it.
But gang...I have a neighbor, a nice but blithering idiot I had him get a Glock 19. Just easier to care for easier to use.
OH and my agency requires we qualify with any gun we want to carry. I do also qualify with a 19X...Why? in case I have to work with a local or state agency that uses glock.
Saying anything about the best of Glocks is akin to writing about the best of Volkswagen Beetles, or, doing an article about the best dentist in Fort Yukon, AK: this very basic pistol has introduced a lot of people to shooting… basic being the operative word.
Some people don’t want to graduate to triggers that beak like a glass rod. Some have never experienced taking up the slack in their trigger in their draw-stroke and think PRRESSSSS to move the trigger that last millimeter before the shot breaks.
I have no doubt that mastering the Glock is possible: there are groups that race their Ford Edsels, too — so anything is possible I guess.
No matter how much bling you dress a Glock up with, it’s still putting lipstick on a pig.
I recently purchased a G34 Gen5 with the longazz barrel, and firing the first round, though “This is a competition model?” My favorite person in the world to talk guns with noticed my lack of enthusiasm with the trigger and suggested purchasing a kit that didn’t lighten the trigger, but made it better. Much better.
I had several other of my Glocks modified so despite having a hefty pull, the sloppiness of the trigger is gone.
Reading the review about the G44, I have to wonder whether the reviewer actually fired that pistol: I tried over a dozen different brands (each with different loads) of .22LR ammunition before finding one brand that performed somewhat satisfactorily, but not what I call great. Seems that the projectiles cause some feed problems, and what your G44 likes being fed, mine might hate it. If the reviewer found that to be the case, don’t you think they would have mentioned it? Not finding that problem would be equally newsworthy.
Having a factory Glock required shooting at point-blank range due to the mushy trigger and crappy reset. True, it will fire being full of water, ice, and/or mud, but those notwithstanding, there are pistols with better ergonomics, trigger pull, and reset.
I own the Glock 31. Same frame as the17, but much more horsepower. I can hit center mass at 100 yards, I love this gun! I don't CCW it, I carry the G48 because of over penatration, but it is a super fun target gun!
I agree Ray, except I did purchase the newer SF version of the G21 in .45....I was affected to much snap from the .9mm,but the .45ACP, now im accurate. I like the single stack 10 round for California. It fits nice in my hands which are medium sized. Btw, I was ready to purchase a Sig 226 .45 but I was challenged to consider the TimeX and no need for the Swiss watch for hf the price.:)
Sheldon
Trigger isn't great and plastic sights. Rinse and repeat. Don't forget terrible ergonomics. They go bang every time, but that's about the extent of the features. Yes, you can get all sorts of aftermarket stuff, but that's about the extent of it.
Should have included best competition Glock. G34 or G17L??
I can't believe you omitted the Glock 21, but perhaps .45acp wasn't considered for this article. As a devoted SIG afficianado, Glocks never figured in, but I always admired and have the deepest respect for them. So when I got the Gen 5 model 21, it was time to enter that world. Quite simply, this is the Glock 17 of the .45acp world...totally reliable, affordable, and includes the lousy, mushy, double-blade trigger. But in the dominant single column magazines of .45acp, the huge bonus is the double-stack 13-round magazines. This makes the gun worthy of military, police, SWAT, and anybody that needs high capacity with proven stopping power. The Timney Alpha Competition trigger with Pivoting Safety Shoe is the perfect solution to the notoriously bad stock trigger. That is exactly what I would be carrying if I was a police officer today.
I started with the G43 and love the gun with the added capacity of 9 + 1 with
after market metal mags. I have since gone to a G48 MOS( I shoot it better than the G43X) and now carry it almost exclusively. I live in NY, so capacity is an issue. I have always loved the simplicity, reliability and look of Glock.
Can I please ask you why you did not add Glock 48? In my opinion it is a great addition to Glock 19.
I have carried a G23 for over 30 yrs. Gen 1 and still going strong. I was carrying a 686 on duty at the time and my police chief gave me grief for buying it. “They called it a Glock because that is sound it makes when people throw it in a lake!” have a 26 and 45. They fit, work, and hit where I aim.
I own a number of glocks, different calibers from 380 to 45. I am retired le officer and carried a glock to protect myself and others the majority of the time. I carried the g22, g23, and g27, all depending on when I was on the road then got smaller models after becoming a "house mouse", I was also the dept armorer, and the glocks no matter what model gave no problems, the main issue i had was to get the officers to clean them more often, even being not as clean as I like, we had no misfires or issues during range times. My edc now is normally the g27. Love them of hate them glocks are in my opinion is the most reliable hand gun on the market.
I would have selected the G48 MOS over the G43X.
I agree about the 47. Already MOS and great to shoot.
Glocks don't use clips. They use reloadable magazines.
I have a Gen 2 G21 (home defence - currently upgrading for supressor- new slide, threaded barrel, all new slide OEM parts kit, Vortex Defender, new supressor hight sights, looking for good machine shop to cut slide, then coat it, haven't bought the supressor yet - leaning towards Obsidian): next in .45 a Gen 3 30 (bought for CCW, not a fan, to bulky): Then .357sig Gen 3 G32, great little gun, lots of fun. Then the big boy Gen 4 G40 thinking on a center chest rig, barrel is a bit long. The 40 will be my back up when I go feral hog hunting! No bear hunting for me!
Why does the Glock 19 have to be Gen 5?
47 over the 17. Exact same dimensions but slide is interchangeable with the 19 to give options. 17s will no longer be sold with MOS unless it is for a LE agency.
Amish Gun belts are a great option for osw / isw . Real leather I’ve had mine for the last six years.
I have a number of Glocks, a real fanboy !
My favourite is the Glock 48 MOS, I think it’s the best CCW out there, it can’t be beaten. Accurate, concealable and immediate co-witness with iron sights.
Thanks for the informative and well written article, as always.
I have the 30S, which I find superior to the 30 and 30SF, due to thinner slide, so little lighter and no difference in recoil from the others that I could tell.
Also, have the 43X, also have the OEM 48 slide and prefer it with the longer slide, not as snappy and no real difference for me for appendix carry (Tenicor holster is essential same for both, even the one made purely for 43X is same length, simply cut down in the front (not the side closer to body, same length).
For the best .380 Glock, the Glock 25 is now available in the US. A Gen 3 19 with a .380 barrel. 15 round mag, easy to handle, and reliable.
My favorite Glock is a PSA Dagger Compact in .40 caliber.
How come no mention of the g45?
I think it's the best of the 9mm for all-around use. Just my 2 cents
My favorite Glock is a newer release, although many hardcore DIYers & gunsmiths have been producing them for a while, that being the Glock 49. Personally, I enjoy a compact frame A) for concealability & B) because I don't have the biggest hands, but I also like the balance & longer sight radius of a full sized slide. I'm a fan of this sort of configuration in almost ANY pistol & will buy one if I see one I like. I have a CZ P10 SC & a Shadow Systems MR920L & love them both! I also have a Walther PDP compact with a 4 inch slide, but plan to buy a 4.5 inch slide for it. I'm utterly befuddled as to why Walther DIDN'T offer the compact with all 3 configurations like they did with the full sized line (4in., 4.5in. & 5in. for the full size line, but only a 4in. & 5in. in the compact line).
I'm wonder why you guys left out 40 S&W ? There are so many of these still being used as people's
everyday carry? Maybe im.oldcschool but I want the perp to go down hard ! What's your reasoning for not listing tnis important series?
Probably the same reason they didn’t update that “g20 only comes in gen 4”.
Lazy recycle for easy clicks. They can do better.
Glocks have no aesthetics. They look like a brick with a handle. I prefer guns that look good. I have four Glocks, so I have nothing against their reliability. They are just ugly.
SIGs are guns you show your friends. Glocks are guns you show your enemy .
I would say plain, not ugly. When my size 10.5" mitts wrap around my G30 gen4 (EDC) .45 ACP with an optional KKM 10mm conversion barrel (one gun with two calibers), I don't care what it looks like. Neither does the Underwood ammo. I set it up to impart the most damage with an almost identical footprint as my G19. When gold mining in the mountains, my G20 is preferred.
Then I researched and found the SilencerCo Hybrid 46 suppressor that can mount to all of the above plus my Zev AR15 in minutes. Thank God I equipped all my weapons with threaded barrels, better triggers and larger capacity magazines just before Washington state came up with an illegal "assault weapons ban". I just made it in before the door slamed on my butt !!
Would like to see all models in a single comparison chart
Search YouTube and Glock's site. I found some good comparison charts there.
The Glock 30s comes only in Gen 3, and being a southpaw the G30 Gen 4 is ambidextrous.
I like the way the Glock remains open after the pistol clip has no rounds left. The weapon appears designed/made/created for easy reload.
The sight/aimer on the barrel of the weapon has a big white dot that is easy to see. :-)
Glock MOS gen5 slides on Nomad frames with Kineti flat face triggers…that’s the right fit & feel for me! And like the 43/43x/48 frames upgraded to Shield Arms Z9 or S15 capacity.
Ms. Billings,
Your article was articulate and quite informative. I own a few Glocks and have been very pleased with their performance. But to hear a female viewpoint, especially a woman highly skilled in martial arts, I find very encouraging. It’s been difficult at times to convince my girlfriend to show any interest in firearms for self-defense, much less continued situational awareness of her surroundings. Therefore, I constantly worry about her personal safety. Thank You for setting a prime example for all women to follow.
Travis Young
Own the G19X & the G45. Never be better for me!
What about a Glock 45 9mm
G45 is GOAT
Everyone list the G19 as the best. The G26 is the correct answer in 9mm. 10rounds to 33rounds. G30 .45 power but less snappy than a G27. G21 .45 or 10mm with a conversion barrel Note: Gen4 in a G21 offers a slimmer grip (like a SF)and a better recoil spring design. As for the G43... Why? trigger sucks and 6rd count is sad, the Sig p365 is so much better of a gun 10rds, size, with a better trigger
. One thing never mentioned in any Glock articles is Glock perfection is only achieved after you change to a 3.5 connector and a extended controls with Night sites also. YMMV
I have a first gen Glock 17 that is great to shoot but my favorite is my Glock 40 Gen 4 MOS with a Trijicon red dot sight. That 10mm pairs nicely with my CMMG Banshee Mk 10 with interchangeable magazines. What’s even better is that I live in rural NW Georgia on 32 acres of land outside the city limits and can shoot anything I want at any time. It’s a firearm enthusiast’s dream scenario.
Never mentioned the GAP #37 ,I think it is the best.....45gap
Very surprised the G45 didn’t make it. It’s my EDC and I love it.
Same here, it’s the perfect cc for me. Few little mods and it’s amazing so far.
I picked up a glock 48mos last month and stock its maybe the most accurate semi auto pistol I have. I was blown away. And I own a 17C that shoots flat as hell. It since has had a swampfox sentinel and threaded barrel with a tyrant comp so it's even better.
I picked the G45 Gen5. It's the perfect fit between the 17 and 19. I updated the trigger and added a red dot. During the Ammo shortage, I added a dryfire mag and MantisX. It has helped increase the accuracy at the range with live fire. G45 should be on that list.
Not to be left out in the cold, I had to get a Glock too... Seems everyone had the full/mid sized - and I tried the17, 19, and 21 at my local range - but I was looking for a smaller powerful package and was absolutely thrilled when I picked up a 27. Albeit a little fatter than I care for when carrying concealed (abdominal), the little beast in .40 S&W - 8 rounds packs a helluva punch. Best yet - The first time I pulled the trigger on the 27 I had a "death grip" on it figuring I'd have my wrist snapped off... far from it... due to it's ergonomics and heavy weight, it was a comfort and a joy to shoot - accurate too for such a small handgun. I got the mag extension so my pinky has a 'notch' which greatly improved the "feel and control".
I’m also a fan of the 26 and 27.
The Glock 26 can use Glock 17 and 19 magazines if you need larger backup reloads and the Glock 27 can use Glock 22 magazines.
Where I live I’ve seen both Detectives and security guards carrying the Glock 27.
However I had a female friend who had very weak wrists and she couldn’t handle the recoil from a Glock 17. She went back to starting with a 22 LR and doing exercises to build up her wrist strength. Everyone will be different so it’s a good idea to try before you buy.
Picked up g45 gen5 today with notched slide and leupold deltapoint pro... no mention of g45 even on the list???
What's wrong with the G34?! You have not mentioned it at all...
Mike is right there are other Gkicks that did not make the list . I have several number of them . From the Glock 42 to the Glodk 17 GEN4 . I like them .
You left out the G48 which I know is a single stack but she feels great in the hand and shoots like a dream. You also overlooked the G22 a very nice well respected 40 caliber pistol.
I purchased my first gun about 9 months ago. I got the Glock 48. Got a little over a thousand rounds through it. I’m hoping the price of ammo will start coming down soon so I can go out more often
I have the glock 43x mos, put night fusion glow sights on it and a carry clip back plate, got a caa micro conversation kit for it but it doesn't work with the sight plate on. Overall good gun.
Glock G17 Gen 4 with a Crimson Trace light. G17 is the gold standard MAKE : GLOCK MODEL : 17 CARTRIDGE : 9 MM LUGER CAPACITY : 17+1-ROUND BARREL LENGTH : 4.49" FINISH : GAS NITRIDE LENGTH : 7.32" MAGAZINE TYPE : REMOVABLE Glock 30SF (.45 ACP)
You don't have the G45 on the table at the top. I love mine and the lasermax guiderod laser just makes that much better. I am absolutely a Glock fan. Thanks.
Well, so many to choose from.......
The 19X, the G45, the baby Glocks, the triplets, G26, G27, & G33, or get the G27 & you can have all 3.
However, if I could only have one..........
The Glock G43X, with the Shield Arms S15 magazines, for a 15 +1 capacity, in a flush fit magazine for Glock’s slime line series.
Glock Perfection!
I have to say picking a favorite Glock is like asking me to pick my favorite child. Being retired law enforcement I've carried both the Glock 19 gen3 and G22 gen4. For on duty carry I'd puck my G22, off duty my G19 gen3. Now I'm a big fan of the G48 which I carried concealed until my wife made it hers as a Bail Bind recovery agent. My next purchase will be a Glock 42. I did find the G43 a disappointment, difficult to draw was bad enough a little to small and snappy for a 9mm.
I’m not sure you’d gain anything with a G42 if you’re disappointed with drawing a G43, they are almost identical in size, with the G43 slightly larger.
I love the glock line up. I love the G20 in 10mm im a big boi so I want a big bullet. But when it comes to canceled carry im going with the 19. Its just a perfect range gun with my lady who also shoots it. Glock needs to make some future changes. Not just size and calibers but one with innovative materials maybe 3d printing titanium or carbon fiber for frames the costs are coming down. Just don't the glock to end up like the 1911. A classic but not as practical I guess. Its time for innovation. Anyone else agree? Its getting into tye same time periods where other designers are taking the lead
I am in the love'm category. Started with a G21, then a G30, went to a G36. Carried them all concealed. The G30 and the G36 are so close in size I went back to the G30 (11 vs 7) as my EDC. I am old school, bigger is better, so that is why I carry .45 A.C.P.. My first gun was a Colt 1911 way back in 1954 I was 14 then. I am almost 81 now and still shoot fist sized groups at 7 yards. That is the longest sight line in my house.
As noted, the G45 is an ideal combo of size and shape for a 9mm. I've got 12 Glocks, from the 17 through the 45, and the G45 is, for me, the best all-around (exempting CCW).
No 19X or 45??? SMH
The first Glock I carried on duty was a G19 in 1991. Over the years I carried the G17, G22, G27, and G34 on/off duty. My favorite for duty use was a toss up between the G17 and G22. As a civilian I carry a customized G19 on a daily basis.
Which holster do you use with your 19? I’m carrying my wife’s LCP Max in my pocket because I have never found a comfortable holster for my 19 or 45. I’m 6-1, 205 lbs, so not too overweight for IWB…. Former military, so I carried OWB and shoulder only.
Thanks for your help.
ET
Glad to see I’m not the only one that thinks G45 is worthy of the list
G45 should be on Glock Top 10 List
Agree. Wasn’t sure when I first got it, but it is a terrific pistol, especially with a red dot.
My G45 gives me a better grip and 2 more rounds than my 19, and better target transition than a 17. I still carry the 19 more, but I love the G45!
What about Glockzilla???? No way that should have been left off the list..... 10x better than the snappy 20.... no comparison... and much more accurate for hunting
I went for the G45: Full size lower G17 and shorter G19 4" upper...
Too bad it was not reviewed.
Gen 3 G21 here. Love that feeling of raw power and hard kick, comes down right on target. I have big hands and the G21 fits perfectly. Too big for concealed carry though, so I got a G42 as a nasty little surprise for the street. Wish Glock manufactured an AR too.
gl0ck 36 !!!
g48 is a glock anyone can shoot and love too. Mine is black on black with truglo tfx sights fiber that glows.
Yes, Ameriglo night sights, added a light; runs flawlessley
You didn't mention a Glock 22lr pistol. I have a Glock 44, 22lr. I use it for my league shooting! a little picky on ammo I have to use a high velocity, 40 gr to avoid misfires. But I recommend it for a plinker.. I can practice a lot more with 22lr ammo
Glock 44 is number 9 on the list.
G35 with a laser max
You forgot the best glock of all.... G45
You bet!!!
Love mine, great pistol
Correction for the article, the G17 and G19 are NOT 1.0 inches wide. The slide width is 1.0, the guns themselves are a little over 1.25.
Hi guys,
I have a question concerning the trigger set for G48. Unfortunately the mentioned Overwatch Precision TAC Trigger is not available in our country but I can buy this one. Do you think it is still worth buying? To be honest I have a problem with the grip a little bit and I´ve heard that the trigger upgrade might help. In fact, I am still shooting a little bit to the left. Nothing serious for defence purposes but I am still angry with that. I tested G48 with other friends and it looks like the "left" problem does not concern me only. Any opinions would be nice.
Thanks a lot and have a great day,
Martin
Have you tried different back straps for grip? I haven’t read anything about glock triggers causing left tendencies. I’d be looking at a barrel upgrade first.
People might think me crazy for saying but I'm a fan of the glock 22 ... not only is it a forty but I have 2 conversion barrels to change it to 9mm and one for 357 sig.. 150 for each barrel and for 450 dollars I bought the postols... but 750 $ and I have 3 guns in 1.. can't do that with but 2 glocks 22 and 23.. pretty sure..
I have a glock 22 where can I get a 9mm barrel
KKM Precision website
You can even get a nice extended length one too
Search Glock 22 conversion barrel
I have a KKM and I like it much
Can you please see if you can find me a gun 225
This is why my 1st Glock, a G23 stayed with me for so long.
A conversion barrel with mags & it is 9mm or just a barrel change & it’s a 357 Sig.
Mine ran flawlessly in any caliber.
You kissed off the best carry gun as an afterthought -- the G42.
With an ETS nine-round magazine and Xgrip shim you've got 10 rounds aboard a gun that barely weighs a pound fully loaded. The expanded magazine also provides a much better grip on a gun whose stock grip is too small for total control.
Loaded with 90 gr. Underwood Ammo's Xtreme Penetrators from Daniels Defense at 1200 fps, the .380 ACP competes very favorably with 9mm.
I wouldn't recommend the G42 for strolling around drug- and gang-infested neighborhoods but in my opinion 10 rounds should take care of thugs pretty much anywhere else.
G30 is a plastic bric, nothing feels like a Sig Select or Gold Cup Colt 1911...
Don't see g30 listed anywhere in this article!
Nothing feels like your empty wallet either!
I don't see G45 here
Let me guess thats your hand gun - LOL
Very well written informative and to the point. Enjoyed reading your article. The G27 has a nine round capacity, not ten. jsyk (just so you know;)
I have a gen 3 17 and a G42 love them both I’ve shot the G19, G43 and the G48. Loved the 19 and the 48. The G43 I found the trigger to be very uncomfortable to my finger due to the way it rubbed or possibly pinched my finger between the trigger guard and the trigger. I don’t notice it on my G42. I positively HATED Glock pistols when I shot my 1st one back in the late 1980’s. Probably a Gen 1, I don’t remember, but I thought it was as comfortable as a brick. When I took my carry class the instructor had a G19 that I was allowed to try. If there was a paradigm shift in a persons thinking, that was it. Sold!
I recently got the Glock 45 Gen 5 and mounted a Holosun HE507C-GR optic on it. I have had several Glocks ( 21, 41, 43 and 17) but this one is my current favorite. The Holosun has been flawless so far, and I like the auto-on / auto-off feature, as well as the auto adjust lighting level. And green! Come on!
Oh, and as an alternate platform to the 10mm G20, the Springfield XDM is worth a serious look.
Yeah, after doing a ton of research on what my first weapon should be I ended up choosing the Glock 45 also. Basically because it's just a Glock 19 with better capacity. The longer grip works better for me too.
the article says the 42 is a single stack. my 42 is a double stack.
i always thought glocks were ugly and never planned to buy one but i was in the store looking to get a taurus spectrum last week and ended up taking home the glock instead. of all my 6 handguns the 42 is the most pleasurable and accurate to shoot at short distances.
Your G42 would be the only double-stack G42! Glock only produces the G42 in single-stack, the double-stack .380 pistol from Glock is the G25 and it is not sold in the USA. You might want to double-check your Glock ;)
I have never shot a glock I am sure they are nice to shoot and reliable as well but I think I can have a carry weapon that is plenty reliable for a lot less money like the ruger security 9 compair it to the gl 19 just as reliable no where as ugly and almost half the price that does it for me keeping in mind I am allowed to change my mind if I ever have the chance to fire one
Still love my Glock 30, 45 ACP.
Roger that on the 30. Kinda fun of my 23 as well
Damn autocorrect. Fun should be fond.
I got a G17 gen 5 about a month ago and I must say it's a lot better than the Gen 4 I had. I'm a bit Sig fan I have a P320 and P226 but that G17 is awesome!
The best Glock is a 1911..... In 9mm
Stands back with marshmallows waiting on flames...
Was waiting with bated breath until I read your mention of the G20. You went and saved the best for last. Why settle for anything less?
That said, I am looking to pick up a G21/45 upper and LW conversion barrels so I can shoot every major caliber out of this platform in the future. Doesn't hurt to have options.
But if I find a G40/10 upper first, then I'm nabbing that, instead. Bring on Glockzilla! Options are overrated, anyway.
I have 2 GLOCK 21's 1 iis from the 80's and it still workd=s perfectlly !!! i have a compact 40,2 glock 19x's and an older compact 9. a sub compact 9,40 for ankles. my family was strically 1911's. once I showed them what glock can do now they own glocks.
so my daughter is a Federal Law Enforcement officer who scorned Glocks and preferred Sigs & HKs because of the double action. I bought a 23 for the wife and she thought it was a bit to much for her. My wive prefers the 19 so I left the 23 for my daughter to bring to the range and now even FLE officer admits the .40 is a pretty nice gun. I have to say though that daughter's p226 is also a nice gun.
ummm g45 is the best of the g17 and g19 gen 5.
I own a G20 and a G26. The most reliable pistols I shoot. They fire any ammo I use. Would not trade them for anything except maybe another Glock.
What about the G34?
I bought my first Glock about a year ago pushed a little bit by my son. But I got the 19x and love it. Thou my hands are not very big I manage it very well. Will be getting another one hopefully soon.
I too bought a 19x about a year ago. I had mixed feelings about it until I put about 500 rounds through it during the course of several range trips. Simple put, this is a great pistol! (On another point; the magazines also work extremely well in my Ruger PC9 Carbine.)
Good or best accurate on a range, I always try to support American industry. My S/w 357 is fine and I carried it at my Two Detroit and Miami business.
For my "duty firearm", I carry a Glock Mod 22 Gen 4 (.40 S&W cal.). It has good stopping power and it only slightly has more recoil. I barely notice it.
For my "off duty" I carry a GLOCK Mod 27 Gen 4 (.40 S&W cal.), The difference in recoil between the 22 and the 27 is again in my opinion negligible. I do confess to having medium sized hands. I would not recommend it to women although the local Sheriff's Office does carry the GLOCK mod 22.
As to the 9mm, It is a perfectly good round, now a day's as the advances in ballistics has advanced probably 10 fold. I do own both a GLOCK 17 and a 26 (Gen 4) which I have used for competition.
I've been a 40SW fan since mid 80's and my first police trade in G23.....later added on a G27 for concealed, and recently the big G35...also have a major inventory of 40SW ammo so have leaned toward staying there. Recently bought threaded 9mm conversion barrels for the 23 and 35 along with extractors, etc. just to have less expensive range cost....but also to be diversified if 40 dried up....also to have good secondaries for my new Banshee in 9mm and suppressor. Just for grins, I also did a 357sig barrel for the 23....same mags..........hitting power and diversification
What, no G23 in .40 S&W? It’s compact, a good shooter, powerful caliber, and it’s mags work in my .40 S&W Keltec Sub 2000.
My thought exactly. When I read through the article and didn’t see the 23, the writer lost some credibility. The 23 is the ideal weapon.
Same here. I canned my 9mm years ago when an LEO friend of mine had to use his on a monster sized perp. The perp took his now empty Glock from him and beat him with it. The perp eventually passed (at the hospital) from several wounds, but not before he put my buddy in the hospital as well. Possibly an exception, but not one I ever want to deal with. The .40 is a stout yet manageable round, and I love my G23 for it. BTW, my buddy's agency went back to the .357 revolver as an issue weapon until the .40 came out.
Kat, Nice article on Glocks. I have one, a G40, 10 mm, that is exceptionally big and comfortable. I have always enjoyed revolvers, especially Rugers, 454 Casulls, 44 magnums. and 357 magnums. Your article has convinced me to buy another Glock - possibly a G43. Thanks for your concise information.
The 19 is my favorite. Over 400,000 rounds and still going. G32C is next, for self defense. And The 20 is my hunting, back up side arm.
Holy cow Bob... was that a typo and you added an extra zero? At .25c a round You've pushed $100,000 through that gun!
would like to c you test the 10mm against the model 33 357cal
That's a great group of Glocks, but mine are simple and as follows:
G26 G4 Subcompact
G19 G4 Compact
G17 G4 Full-size
G34 G4 Competition
Why? And what do they have in common? All 9mm that share mags.
They are Gen 4 so they have any and all accessories or upgrades you could ever want.
That's my top 4 Glocks. (And I have all 4)
(
You may never reply, since I’m asking this so many months after you commented. I’m hoping maybe you, or even anyone who sees this can help me out. I want a gun, basically protection and for shooting range. My dad used to take us shooting all the time, but it’s been about 20 yrs, since I’ve shot a gun. I was thinking about getting the G26, possibly the G19. Do you have any advice, as to which would be the better option, for the purpose I have mentioned. In a situation of defense, I want to know it has enough power to stop someone. Thank you, to anyone who takes time out to answer me.
Respectfully disagreeing, the FBI has recently concluded.on common sense... Bigger bullets cause bigger holes=people dying faster with less rounds. Fascinating concept. So logically without further ado, I suggest the Glock 21 SF(.45 ACP), Glock 41 Gen 4(.45 ACP), Glock 20 SF(10mm), and Glock 40 Gen 4. All used domestically, and internationally as not only Law Enforcement issued but as Military Special Operations as well. Not only does .45 suppress more effectively due to already being below the sound barrier, 9mm isn't stopping polar bear's anytime soon (10mm). If you want to be like the NYPD and carry a bunch of ammunition (9mm), shoot a bunch of rounds to overcompensate for your underpowered ammunition, miss a bunch of times due to having to shoot a volley of weaker rounds to no effect, and hit a bunch of innocent people... Then by all means 9mm. Just look up every organization, department, agency, regiment, division, company, squad ect. that has come out against, or completely moved away from 9mm for lack thereof. Don't believe professionals? Look up wound tracks and cavities for the .45 ACP and 10mm compared to any 9mm. The instilling of common-sense unto the ignorance of masses uneducated on the topic of my profession is complete.
Actually not accurate at all. Many LE agencies and the FBI have transitioned back to the 9mm. Check into it yourself, please.
That's why the FBI decided money beats performance, and went back to the 9. That way, when they are on their cell phones begging bad guys to surrender, or telling the bad guys to run and hide from Republican professional law enforcement, the 9mm won't over burden their pants..
Great Article; For a novice, it broke down the complexities to be understandable. Great help in choosing the model for my needs. Thank you
EDC g19, combat pistol g17. Still rocking the gen 3. No reason to switch both work great.
I know that at one time the Glock 34 was a favorite among IDPA competitors.
I had on, and really liked it.
