Safariland makes some of our favorite gear – if you don’t mind forking over the big bucks to get it. Now the brand is making its hearing protection a little more accessible for the average shooter.
The new Safariland Pro Impulse over-the-ear hearing protection balances value and performance, while a new set of earplugs comes in at an even lower price.

The electronic Pro Impulse earmuff offers a noise reduction rating of 23, and can amplify ambient sounds by a factor of five.
Most active hearing protection uses one microphone for each ear, but the Pro Impulse gives you two per ear. That makes you safer on the range by raising your situational awareness.
Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity lets you listen to your phone and make calls. Don’t want to deal with that? You can also use a standard 3.5-millimeter auxiliary jack to listen to music or podcasts.

Power comes from two AAA batteries. If you forget to turn your ear pro off (as we’ve all done), it will turn itself off automatically after three hours to conserve battery life.
That’s a pretty compelling list of features, especially when you consider that prices for the next level of hearing protection, the Safariland Liberator, start at $359. As good as the Liberator HP 2.0 is (and I’m a big fan), that’s just not a financial possibility for the majority of gun owners.

Safariland lists an MSRP of $74.98 for Pro Impulse hearing protection.
Looking for something even less expensive? Safariland also announced Pro Impulse Plus earplugs for $24.98.

This passive in-ear hearing protection has an impressive NRR rating of 41.7 and allows users to converse normally with sound filters that automatically increase from 12 decibels of sound reduction to 41 decibels when a shot is fired.
Think of this as analog active hearing protection – no batteries required.
