Maven made a name for itself with direct-to-consumer pricing, but right now the Wyoming  company is bringing the heat with innovation.

The new Maven RFZ.1 rangefinder is changing the game with zoom capability that already has me looking forward to my next trip to my local long-distance range.

On top of that, a pair of new monoculars – the Maven M.1 and M.2 – are good news for anyone who weighs their pack in ounces.

Let’s break it all down one at a time, shall we?

The RFZ.1 is an updated version of what I consider to be one of the best rangefinders out there, the RF.1.

The big change is 6-12-power magnification instead of 7-power fixed magnification. Not only does that improve your ability to be precise when ranging small or distant targets, it gives you the option of using the rangefinder as a monocular.

The objective lens is now 21 millimeters instead of 25 millimeters.

Like its predecessor, the RFZ.1 offers five reticle options, five brightness settings, and the ability to switch between field and forest filter modes with the flick of a physical switch.

The ranging system can pinpoint reflective targets from 5 to 4,500 yards (2,000 yards for a tree; 1,300 yards for a deer). You can also range in meters.

Maven lists an MSRP of $595 for the RFZ.1.

Meanwhile, two new monoculars bring popular optical systems from Maven’s binocular lineup to market in a more compact package.

“With the success of the B1.2 and B.6 optical systems, we wanted to bring that same high-end performance to a more compact, one-handed format,” Mike Lilygren, Maven co-founder, said. “The M.1 and M.2 monoculars are built for those who value portability but want the very best in optical quality.”

The M.1 features 10-power magnification, and the same optical system used in Maven’s B1.2 binoculars. It’s a compact and value-forward optic that keeps size and weight to a minimum.

Maven lists an MSRP of $450 for the M.1.

The M.2 gets optical components from Maven’s B.6 binoculars and 12-power magnification. The step up in power comes with a minimal size and weight increase, but it’s still much more manageable than a binocular.

Maven lists an MSRP of $500 for the M.2.

All of these new optics benefit from Maven’s lifetime warranty.
