We expect a lot from our AR-15 optics. They need to be precise enough for a carbine, light enough for an AR pistol, and reliable enough to trust our lives to them in a home defense situation.
The refreshed line of Holosun AEMS X2 optics is stepping up to that challenge, and I like what I see so far.
Let’s take a closer look.

The AEMS Core X2 gives recreational or budget-conscious shooters everything they need without extra features that inflate the price.
The reticle is a 2-MOA dot in your choice of red, green, or gold. Gold reticles have been picking up steam lately as a helpful alternative for people with color blindness.
Brightness settings include 10 daytime options and two that are night vision-compatible.
Stepping up to the AEMS Pro X2 opens the door to some tasty upgrades.

Right up top, you’ll notice a solar panel that takes over to preserve battery life when bright light is available. The 1.1-inch by 0.87-inch windows get extra protection from flip-down, anti-reflection covers.
Inside, the AEMS Pro X2 gets a multi-reticle that lets you choose from a 2-MOA dot, 65-MOA ring, or both. Once again, you have your choice of red, green, or gold reticles.
This time, brightness settings include eight for daytime and four for use with night vision.
Holosun lists a starting MSRP of $352.93 for the AEMS Core X2 and $470.58 for the AEMS Pro X2.
