If you’ve ever rented a gun at your local shooting range, you know it can get expensive in a hurry – and you can forget about taking it home with you.
RentAGun is a new online service that ships rental guns for you to shoot, share, and hunt with. The inventory has everything from concealed carry pistols you might want to buy to historic firearms you never thought you’d see in person.

If you ever wanted to know what it feels like to have a massive firearm collection, this is your chance.
So, how does renting guns online work?
It’s a lot like buying from an online gun store. You make your selection, order it from RentAGun’s website, and provide them with a local FFL. When your selection arrives, you fill out the necessary paperwork and take it home.

Before the rental period expires, use the provided shipping label to send it back to RentAGun using the designated package carrier. It’s that easy.
“After 20 years in the firearm industry, I saw a clear gap in the market,” Matt Longley, the founder and CEO of RentAGun, told Pew Pew Tactical.
“People want to try before they buy. Some hunters may need a rifle for one important trip, not for life. And many enthusiasts want more than a few rounds at the range – they want time with different firearms in the settings where they would actually use them. RentAGun was created to give people a practical, flexible way to experience firearms before making a bigger commitment.”

RentAGun pricing for individual firearm rentals starts at less than $10 a day. That’s with unlimited range time, and unlimited round count.
Monthly subscriptions are available for shooters who don’t want to take a break from the action.

The essential plan, which costs $99 per month, includes one two-week rental per month with a maximum value of $1,000. This looks like a good option for recreational shooters who want to expand their horizons.
The pro plan costs $199 per month. For the upcharge, you get two two-week rentals per month, and the value cap goes up to $3,000. Pro subscribers also get an early heads-up when new firearms get added to RentAGun’s inventory.
History buffs, this is the plan for you. They even have an M1 carbine for $18 a day — are you kidding me? Send two!

It’s not just about satisfying your curiosity, either. Rent A Gun has packages for people who need a rifle for hunting season, but don’t want to drop thousands of dollars on a rifle, scope, and enough range time to gather data on previous engagements, or DOPE.
Deer, big game, and varmint hunting packages offer a rifle and scope that are zeroed and validated at distance so you get the same reliable data you’d normally need several boxes of ammo to collect at the range. In the case of the big game package, this includes DOPE to 400 yards and beyond.

All things considered, this looks like a great way for new shooters to gain experience with different models before buying their first gun, and the rest of us to enjoy a fun range day without taking out a line of credit with our local antique firearm dealer.

Great idea. However, $99 per month seems a bit steep, especially when I can rent a gun at my local range for around $5 a visit.
