Are you an online gun & gear shopping fan?
You probably already know there’s a multitude of things you can buy online, like ammo, rifle scopes, and even complete firearms–not to mention a plethora of upgrades, accessories, and more.
One of our favorite things to buy online, though, are magazines…aka freedom seed holders.
We’re going to talk about why the internet is a great place to buy magazines, as well as our favorite online retailers that we personally trust.
Then go over our favorite picks for a variety of popular guns.

How We Chose the Best Places
The Pew Pew Tactical team tests a lot of guns…from pistols to rifles and shotguns. We try to have at least 5 magazines for each firearm…along with tons of AR-15,AK, & Glock magazines.
That means we’re always on the lookout for the best place to buy gun mags online. Both in terms of price but also selection for those harder to find magazines.
We polled the entire team to find our go-to sites with the following criteria:
- Bought at least 5 times over a year long period
- Good selection of popular magazines and some hard to find models
- Reasonable shipping rates and handling time
- Easy-to-understand shipping restrictions for states/counties/cities
Best Places to Buy Gun Magazines Online
1. Gun Mag Warehouse
Folks, it’s right there in the name. Gun Mag Warehouse is an online retailer that carries just about every magazine you could hope for, including options for rifles, handguns, shotguns, and magazine accessories.
As they put it, “We aim to provide new and veteran gun enthusiasts with every magazine that is currently in production, in-stock and ready to ship.”
We’re a big fan of their 60-day return period (with no restocking fees!), as well as their phenomenal customer service reps that go above and beyond to take care of you.
Most items ship from about $4.99, so you won’t have to break the bank on shipping without that sweet, sweet Amazon Prime.
Their site is also super easy to navigate and filter results, so you can quickly shop for what you need, rather than paging through results page after results page.
And a big shoutout for supporting CA during Magazine Freedom Week.

2. The Mag Shack
The Mag Shack is another of our favorite pure magazine online resellers.
They’ve got some pretty competitive pricing so now I usually check both Gun Mag Warehouse and The Mag Shack for my needs.
Of course they’ve got the usual suspects of AR-15, AK, and handgun mags but I’ve found they have some harder to find stuff as well.
Shipping starts at a reasonable $5.99 and their main base in is FL for you to estimate shipping times.
Plus a great 60-day return period.
3. Palmetto State Armory
Our friends over at the Palmetto State Armory are another great source for all your magazine needs.
They’ve got more than 700 different magazines from all the leading manufacturers–talk about variety!
PSA is a veteran-owned business that’s dedicated to being a friendly one-stop-shop for amateur to expert gun enthusiasts. They focus on providing top-quality products and customer service, and it shows.
Don’t forget to check their site for promotions and daily deals, as well. They offer free shipping on certain products and have a great clearance section for you bargain hunters.
Their usual go-to deal are their Magpul PMAG Gen 2 for around $8.99 and free shipping on 10+ with a listed code on the page.
If you’re in South Carolina, don’t forget to check out one of their five retail locations, which are fully stocked and definitely awesome.
4. Brownells
If you’ve been around Pew Pew Tactical for a bit, you’ve probably noticed that we really love Brownells. And what’s not to love?
They’re one of the leading suppliers of all things guns, from accessories and ammo to gunsmithing tools and firearms–and magazines, of course!
Not only does Brownells offer a huge variety of magazines and magazine accessories, but they also have some of the best prices around. They even offer some great deals if you keep an eye out.
(Psst! Check out our Gun Deals of the Day, and we’ll do all the hard work for you.)
They also make it easy to hunt for just what you need with a robust set of filters. They make it easy to calculate shipping, just by inputting your zip code, and they’re really reasonable on their shipping prices.
You also can’t beat their customer service and easy return process!
5. Rainier Arms
First getting their start in 2005, Rainier Arms is known as a go-to site for high-end AR-15 parts and accessories, but that isn’t all you should be shopping for there.
They’re great at picking up on the hottest new firearm trends and keeping you supplied with old favorites, too. Rainier Arms may not have as enormous of a selection as others on this list, but every offering is hand-picked for its excellence.
Browsing is easy, thanks to the thoughtful filters the site offers, including stock status! We’re pretty excited about that.
Like everyone else on our list, their customer service is amazing. You’ll feel like the only customer in the world with their reps!
6. Sportsman’s Guide
Sportsman’s Guide is a bit of a unique site, featuring military surplus, boating, camping, power tools, clothing, and, of course, firearms, ammo, and accessories. You can find practically anything outdoors-y here, and for a great price.
We definitely recommend that you join their Buyer’s Club, which nets you 10% off most anything on the site (5% off guns and ammo!). That can add up to a huge savings, but you don’t need us to tell you that.
Even without the Buyer’s Club, their standard deals are pretty dang decent. They even let you filter their offerings by what’s on sale today.
With more than 450 products in the magazine category alone, you’ll have hours of happy browsing with all the top brands.
Sportsman’s guide also has a breezy returns process and a 90-day return policy, for all you procrastinators out there.
Best Magazines for AR-15, Glock, & AK-47
We’ve done our fair amount of shooting through these three popular platforms…and here’s our favorite magazines.
- Best AR-15 Magazines: Standard, High-Cap, & Restricted
- Best Glock Magazines
- Best AK-47 Magazines
- Best 1911 Magazines
Online Magazine Buying Restrictions
State laws can definitely make the online buying process a little convoluted, and it’s no fun to have your order canceled and refunded because the seller can’t ship your order to you due to restrictions.
Keeping that in mind, here are a few state restrictions you’ll need to abide by:
- California: No magazines over 10 rounds will be shipped to customers with shipping addresses in CA except to law enforcement or customers with high capacity magazine permit.
- Chicago and other counties within IL: No magazines over the below capacities will be shipped to customers with shipping addresses in the following areas: Aurora (max capacity 15 rounds), Cook County (max capacity 10 rounds), Illinois overall (No magazines over 10rd for rifles, 15 for handgun, 7 for shotgun)
- Colorado: No magazines over 15 rounds
- Connecticut: No magazines over 10 rounds will be shipped to customers with shipping addresses in CT. As of 10/1/13 in order to comply with CT Senate Bill No. 1160 magazines holding 10 rounds or less can only be purchased if buyer provides a copy of driver’s license and ONE of the following: state handgun carry permit, long gun certificate, or ammunition certificate.
- Delaware: No magazines over 17 rounds
- District of Columbia: No magazines over 10 rounds capacity
- Hawaii: No magazines over 10 rounds that are compatible with any pistol
- Maryland: No magazines over 10 rounds
- Massachusetts: No magazines over 5 shotgun shells and over 10 rounds for Rifles & Pistols
- New Jersey: No magazines over 10 rounds
- New York: No magazines over 10 rounds
- Rhode Island: No magazines over 10 rounds
- Vermont: No magazines over 10 rounds for Rifles and over 15 rounds for Pistols
- Washington: No magazines over 10 rounds
Please note: We’re not lawyers and the law is changing constantly, so this isn’t legal advice. Always do your research before ordering.
Why Buy Gun Magazines Online?
Well, for one, the world wide web offers a nearly endless array of options–generally much better than the local gun store. If it’s been made, you can find it online.
This is great for people who want magazines for rarer weapons or have specific preferences for their magazines.
Quite simply, your local gun store probably doesn’t have the benefit of a warehouse’s worth of stock the way an online retailer does, so they’re only going to stock what they know will sell.
Another reason is the cost. Often, online retailers can offer magazines at fantastic prices since they don’t have nearly the same operating costs as your local gun shop. Even with shipping accounted for, you may be able to save a few bucks.
Adding onto that–there’s a chance you may not need to pay sales tax on your purchase, which is always welcome.
Cha-ching!
Final Thoughts
The internet is a great thing. It allows us to read our favorite gun blogs (us), watch our favorite GunTubers (again, us), and buy magazines and firearms from all our favorite retailers.
That being said, it can be difficult to know who is on the up-and-up, and who isn’t. We personally use and trust all the retailers on our list, and we hope you’ll love them just as much as we do!
Do you have a favorite place to shop for magazines online? Any places you’d warn others away from? Don’t forget stuff to fill those magazines with. Here are the best places to buy ammo online!

Optics Planet says no longer available. Ordergunmagsonline shows them in stock, of course—for the suspiciously low price of $19.99. I see people on feebay selling them for 80-125 dollar each. Then others on feebay have this triple K brand for about $35 each. Is that legit. Yea, I know, it’s feebay, which is just scamazon for used items. Oh wait, craiglist is the scamazon for used items.
Thanks for posting this mostly helpful article. One correction concerns PSA. I like Palmetto State Armory, have a store in my city. Their magazine selection for a frontline source is what I would call poor to fair. If you need AR15 magazines and want Black, Magpul, Gen 2, 30-round mags, PSA has you covered. They have some AK and Glock mags, and of course their aluminum 30-round AR15 mags, with PSA logo on floor plate, that are rebranded D&H Tactical ones. For oddball mags or wide selection of brands, GunMag Warehouse is far superior. Also PSA’s shipping charges are getting out of hand (see how much it costs to ship an AR complete upper and complete lower).
Reminder to customers: if you find a website that seems to stock the uncommon or hard-to-find magazine you want, the price seems surprisingly low, and they only take bitcoin, western union, paypal, chime, but not major credit cards, it’s probably a scam. The old saying, “if it seems too good to be true, it probably is,” applies double nowadays because of the internet store. I say “doubly” because crooks can stay anonymously cowering behind their website and you can’t look them in the eye to see that they are dishonest.
Search for “fake gun website in alaska” to see some articles about to spot online scams.
Sounds like a scam. There is a fake gun store in Alaska that uses stolen artwork and text from a gun store in Utah. There is a similar one in New York that even has similar looking website. They don’t take major credit cards, have weird mags in stock, and have suspiciously low prices. In other words, too good to be true. I emailed both sellers to see if they actually had the oddball magazines I wanted and got no replies. Do some research online. Look up “vendor name” and add the words “complaints” and or “problems.”. Also check the BBB. I know BBB isn’t 100% reliable since they seem to charge people money in exchange for good ratings, but a rating of F is still a clue.
Just looked at the website you asked about, definitely a scam. Web page looks like the others I mentioned. I looked for the MP40-22 23-round magazine for the 22LR replica of the MP40 German wwii gun. Nobody in the USA showed these in stock for awhile but sure enough, your suspect site shows them at the same very suspicious $32 imaginary price. REal price is about $40 each. And I see they don’t take visa.
Check many places. I like to have 5 extra on top of the 2 that come with the firearm. I was surprised at the cost of the Hellcat Pro 10 round 9mm magazine at Midwest Gun Works.
Hey, Eric! big fan of gen3 Smith autoloaders. about the only place I can find magazines, and they're not cheap, is om ebay.
I've had good results from Mag shack. Found a hard to find magazine .Palmetto is local, maybe try them next
I'm in the market for some 1911 45 ACP magazines. I'll use them in a Colt Gold Cup and a TISAS Issue Model.
I'm looking for a 7-shot magazine. What do you suggest.
Mag shack has hard to find
I recently tried to use "ordergunmagazinesonline" dot com and have had a horrible experience. They only accept payment via PayPal, Venmo and another similar service. No credit cards.
They have an impressive set of testimonials from "verified buyers" on their web site, but when I have tried to post a review about my own experience, they short-stop it and do not let it post directly. In 7 weeks, I have been able to get someone to chat on line with me about the order on two occasions. Both times, they reported the shipment has been "lost". The first time, they asked me to send an additional $60 to pay for reshipping it insured. Against my better judgement I paid it via PayPal. After two weeks I finally got someone to respond on their chat site, only to be informed it was again "lost". This time the 'helpful employee" on the chat offered to have a friend who would be travelling in my area soon bring the magazines to me. I declined. My order is now over seven weeks old, still unfilled, and I cannot get a response on their site despite assurance that they are on line and ready to respond. Has anybody else had experience with this vendor?
Good list! Don't forget Gunbroker and Ammoseek. Their formats allow you to cut to the chase and narrow your search rapidly, from low to high price or whatever your criteria is. Also, OpticsPlanet has free shipping, though the prices are hit-or-miss.
I stopped using Brownell’s after they screwed up an ordered and ignored my attempts to get them to fix it.
I have had good luck with CDNN Sports. Especially with Glock factory mags. if you buy in volume the flat rate shipping (8.99-9.99) pans out.
I prefer to visit local and not so local shops and usually find clearance prices so I purchase accordingly. But I have 5 mags for each hand in 2 calibers and 10ea of 2 calibers for long at a minimum. Did get some from Palmetto. Great service from them.
Greg cote llc has been a favorite for me for sig mags. Always in stock and always less shipping included
Don't EVER fall victim to GunMagsOnline!! Crooks!!
Grabagun is great. They are local here in Texas but my friend in Virginia buys his ammo from them too. Sign up for sales and sometimes they have discount codes too.
Thank you finally something that seems reliable and provides a good service.
I forgot to add this originally. If you see the option under the product to "Grab a Quote" take advantage of it. You will get an email back offering you a discounted price. I recently purchased a S&W MP Shield Plus through them. No issues.
Best place ever used gun mag warehouse very fast shipping also usually got anything
I've used Midway for most of my extra pistol Mags. Catch them on sale and save between 15 to 25% off LGS prices.
I live in Colorado, so we're restricted to 15 rounds, but knowing the restriction was coming, I bought about 30 P-Mags for my AR's before it became Law. A stupid and worthless law that is impossible to enforce, as I can go to N. Mexico, Wyoming or Kansas and buy 30 rounders all day. Magazines typically do not have serial numbers or dates of manufacture on them, so how's a Cop supposed to tell if it's Pre or Post Ban? They can't tell.
I found a place to pick up an extra magazine for my High Standard Model B (1st year production), but man is it going to be pricey at $80/magazine.
Try finding a mag for a Zastava M70 .32 ACP pistol. 1000's imported, no parts or mags to be found. People, like me, are buying extra guns as part and magazine sources. Thank goodness they're cheap.
Numrich? Gun dot deals? (Gun.deals)
Found a seller on eBay that had mags and most parts, no leaf spring or mag catch. I'll find those two eventually! I got all I wanted of what they had. All gone now.
Brownells is a waste. Never anything in stock. Sportsmans can not be trusted. Guess its all about who sponsors this site.
You should take sportsman's guide off your list. They are an awful company, just look them up on BBB.
Anybody know where I can find UZI 9mm magazines …25 Rds & 32 Rds. ??
Keep up the great work, its hard to find good ones.
Does anyone know where can I find original mags for the Polish Randon P64... 9x18mm
I would pick up a copy of the shotgun news, I think it's called the firearms news now and other than searching it out online would be a good bet.
... yes guns are useless without magazines. But both are nothing more than decorative paper weights without ammo. Train, train, train they say. Dry fire skill drills are great, but how do you train for recoil control without ammo. And I’m beginning to doubt the reasons for the ammo shortage. Which by the way, has given rise to the “justified” current pricing.
I’ve had good luck with
Magshack.com
Mag commander
Sgammo.com
In my opinion, you should avoid BuyMyMags.com. Seller sent a magazine that arrived with a defective, broken in half, slide. If you want to return the item, you will have to pay shipping for seller’s defective product. I cannot recommend any seller that does not stand behind their own product.
CZ MAGAZINES: Greg Cote Ltd.
second that
Shoulda' mentioned Botach.com. They have a good selection and free shipping on everything, with the free shipping often making them the cheapest option. It isn't the easiest site to navigate though, since often the exact mag is chosen through a drop-down list rather than clicking on an image.
I second Botach. I buy my OKAY SureFeed mags from them. Can’t beat free shipping.
Another site is Cheaper Than Dirt. Good spot for ammo and parts as well as magazines.
Screw Cheaper Than Dirt. After Sandy Hook they significantly jacked up the price of everything and cancelled orders to take advantage of the ensuing panic.
I second that and go a step further. Those of us behind enemy lines in the peoples republic of maryland are denied access to magazines, even legal 10 round magazines, and ammo thanks to cheaper than dirts policies. Screw them!
I third that.
It's one thing jacking up prices (OK, supply and demand).
It's a whole other thing to cancel existing orders (otherwise known as a CONTRACT) that were in process and then restock them at the jacked up prices.
Never bought a single thing from them since.
They have the worst rep in the gun world (except make IO Inc and their notorious AK abortions)
I have noticed that you NEVER mention MIDWAY USA as a good place to buy things. Midway is just about one of my Favorites and as a general rule they are like Brownells, they don't sell JUNK
I agree. Love Midway USA. I bought ammo from them at great prices among other things
Grabagun price on factory CZ Scorpion magazine went up $2 from search to product page. Lame.
Try CDNNSports.com They have great prices on mags (esp. Sig)
I always check them first
The Mag Shack, PSA, Botach and Gun Mag Warehouse are my goto places for magazines dependi g on sales and which mags I am in need of stocking.
Gunmagwarehouse just rocks.
Mag commander and sgammo
GunMagWarehouse and PSA get my votes; great prices and service.
Yep, GunMag Warehouse has been the best. I've had feeding problems problems with magazines purchased online from less than reputably sources. Never a problem from these guys and its tough to beat their prices.
Your top 5 picks are all great to deal with. Sign up for their newsletters and know who has the best deals on a weekly basis, sometimes getting additional discounts.
Gun Mag Warehouse great people, great prices and great service! Palmetto State Armory not so much!
