Sometimes, great products don’t need to be reinvented – they just need a few tweaks.
That’s true for the new Steiner MPS 2.0. This is a refinement of an already very good enclosed-emitter red dot.
Let’s take a look at what’s new for this rugged second-generation optic, and revisit what we already like about the MPS.

As before, this is a duty-focused enclosed pistol red dot. It uses the ACRO footprint, and the external dimensions remain unchanged. That includes the 21- by 16-millimeter window.
The most visible improvement is a pair of much larger brightness control buttons on the left side of the optic. These are much easier to use by feel, with or without gloves. There are still six daylight and two night vision brightness settings.
If the top-mounted battery compartment looks bigger, that’s because it now houses a CR2032 battery instead of a CR1632. That results in vastly improved battery life (from 13,000 to 27,000 hours on brightness setting five, or 90,000 hours on brightness setting four), which is extended further by a 13-hour automatic shutoff feature. You can disable auto-shutoff if you prefer.
One really clever feature I noticed is the magnetic battery cover that keeps the little battery in place during installation, so it doesn’t fall out and go rolling across the floor.
Since this is intended to be a hard-use duty optic, Steiner rates it for submersion down to 35 meters, and temperatures ranging from -40 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

Steiner lists an MSRP of $631.99 for the MPS 2.0.
