Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new pistol from Staccato!

The leading 2011 gunmakers in Texas went back to the drawing board to make a do-it-all pistol that checks boxes we’ve been hollering about and boxes we didn’t even know we had.

Let’s see what the upcoming Staccato HD P4 has in store for us.

First things first, this is still a steel-frame 2011 chambered for 9mm with a bull barrel and a 4-4.5-pound single-action trigger. That much is similar to the Staccato C, CS, C2, P, XC, and XL.

This one doesn’t use 2011 magazines, though. The grip has been redesigned to accept Glock magazines without changing the grip angle. It’s a little bit slimmer, too.

The new Staccato HD P4 uses Glock magazines!

The HD P4 ships with two 18-round steel Mec-Gar magazines and will work with standard 17-round Glock mags.

Other ergonomic improvements include redesigned slide serrations for smoother press checks and tactile index points to encourage consistent hand placement.

The Staccato HD P4 looks like one heck of an EDC pistol.

Gone is the grip safety – an active firing pin block provides an extra layer of safety instead. All the controls are ambidextrous.

See something out of the ordinary? Staccato bumped the rear sight forward to make installing a red dot easier. Instead of adapter plates, the HD P4 uses Staccato’s new Host Mounting System that works with most pistol optics and creates a stronger connection with mounting screws.

Staccato HD P4
The Staccato HD P4 uses the proprietary Host Mounting System to attach optics without an adapter plate.

While I wouldn’t call the HD P4 affordable, it will save money in the long run. Glock magazines are a dime a dozen -- many shooters already have a stack lying around, and 2011 magazines are notoriously expensive.

Staccato lists an MSRP of $2,499 for the HD P4, and you can buy one starting January 28, 2025. The HD P4.5, which is scheduled to hit stores later this spring, has an MSRP of $2,699.

Staccato HD P4.5
The Staccato HD P4.5 will have a fixed front sight block.

The larger, more duty-focused HD P4.5 adds a clever front sight block that reduces reciprocating mass and should knock down felt recoil enough to notice – and Staccatos are already buttery smooth.
