If you own a suppressed short-barreled rifle or AR-15 pistol, the new line of Hornady SBR Suppressed ammunition is for you.

This new ammo is tuned specifically for smaller firearms, and it’s available in four popular cartridges. Let’s open the box and take a look, shall we?

Hornady SBR Suppressed is designed for short barrels, whether that’s on an SBR or an AR-15 pistol. With regulations surrounding suppressors and these types of firearms moving in the right direction for gun owners, that’s very timely news.

At launch time, cartridge options include 5.56 NATO, 6mm ARC, .300 Blk, and .308 Win. Each is available with one weight of Hornady’s excellent ELD Match bullet. It’s worth pointing out that Hornady refers to these as “initial offerings” online, so we can probably expect to see more in the future.

Hornady SBR Suppressed is specially tuned to offer optimal ballistic performance from short barrels – that includes carefully dialed pressure and velocity.

The propellant is also cleaner-burning, which should help keep suppressed firearms from gunking up so fast.

All in all, it’s a compelling option for people who are willing to spend a little more for premium ammo (and if you own a suppressed SBR, you probably have the cash for this kind of thing).

Now, if you have a carbine- or rifle-length gas system, you’re better off sticking to Hornady’s existing American Gunner and Black families of ammunition.
