Selling holsters is a tricky business. In addition to serving hundreds if not thousands of pistol models, manufacturers now have to contend with red dot optics and weapon lights. The combinations are endless.

It sucks for us, too, because we have to buy a separate holster for every configuration of every pistol we own. It’s exhausting (and expensive).

One way around all this is to build a retention system around the weapon light rather than the pistol. That’s how the new Tier 1 Concealed MSP OWB holster can support a huge array of pistols with only three sub-models.

The original MSP, or Modern Samurai Project, uses the same approach (as do lots of other brands), but it’s built to carry pistols inside the waistband. This one puts the pistol outside the waistband but keeps the same internal design.

Tier 1 Concealed MSP OWB Specs & Features

Specs

  • Compatibility: Any pistol with a Surefire X300, Streamlight TLR-1, or Modlite PL350
  • Style: OWB
  • Material: Kydex
  • Retention: Level 1
  • MSRP: $124.99

Features

  • Compatible with 28 pistol models
  • Available with four mounting solutions
  • Huge range of colors and patterns

The MSP OWB supports the Surefire X300, Streamlight TLR-1, or Modlite PL350. As long as you’re running one of those lights, you can carry a Glock, SIG, Smith & Wesson, Springfield, HK, Walther, 1911, or several other popular pistols – even swap your light from one to another and keep using the same holster.

As usual, Tier 1 Concealed lets you customize your holster. Choose from right- or left-handed models. Pick whichever color or pattern you want, including wildly impractical but totally rad Multicam Alpine winter camo. Tier 1 Concealed also sells the MSP OWB with Safariland and G-Code mounting systems.

With the MSP OWB, the only things holding your pistol in place are friction and gravity. That’s fine for most shooters. It’s simple, fast, and cost-expensive, but you’ll probably want something with multiple layers of retention if you’re shopping for a duty holster.

Tier 1 Concealed lists a starting MSRP of $124.99 for the MSP OWB. Patterns, mounting solutions, and blue thread lock come at an additional cost.
