Editor’s Note: Harrington & Richardson's 723-style is a pre-M4 carbine that oozes retro cool. Modelled after the Colt 723, H&R got just about everything right. A fixed A1 carry handle, period-correct furniture, and the correct barrel profile make this gun an excellent retro shooter and an ideal base for cloning specific builds of the era.

By The Numbers

Accuracy
Our tester had difficulty getting great groups, but mentioned that an optic or better diopter, and a better shooter would probably help here.
Reliability
Our test rifle performed admirably over the 500-round count, suffering zero stoppages.
Customization
On one hand, it is an AR, so customization options are numerous. But being a retro gun, the fixed carry handle and lack of rail space limits your options if you leave it as is.
Ergonomics
AR-15 ergonomics are great, but the A2 grip and older CAR-style stock and handguard aren't particularly comfortable.
Value
This one is really in the eye of the beholder. It is a lot of money for a bare-bones build, but if you are into retro or clone guns, you may get your money's worth.
