Springfield has taken a proactive approach to giving shooters exactly what they want. That means you aren’t stuck with compact or full-size pistols – you can mix and match.
Their latest release, the **Springfield Prodigy 3.5 AOS**, features the brand’s shortest slide and a full-size grip.
I’m going to be putting one of these pistols through its paces very soon, but read on to see what we know so far!

- Forged frame and slide
- Compact slide, full-size grip

- Tritium front sight, AOS optic plates
This pistol uses the same forged steel frame and polymer grip module as the full-size Prodigy. That means it offers 18+1 capacity from standard magazines (two are included), and provides plenty of real estate for larger hands.
Springfield also sells 20- and 26-round magazines if you want even more capacity in your spare mag.
The slide comes from the lineup’s smallest Prodigy. It features a 3.5-inch bull barrel, a tritium front sight, and the AOS (Agency Optic System) so you can pick the right adapter plate for your preferred [**pistol red dot**](https://www.pewpewtactical.com/best-pistol-red-dot-sights/).
It uses a more conventional guide rod assembly than the larger counterpart’s two-piece guide rod. I appreciate that because you can field strip this one without tools.
The Prodigy occupies a sweet spot in the market between polymer-framed carry guns and more expensive 2011-style pistols like the [**Staccato CS**](https://www.pewpewtactical.com/staccato-cs-review/).
If you’re not sure about carrying a hammer-fired, steel-framed pistol, I suggest trying one before you make up your mind.
Springfield lists an MSRP of **$1,582 for the new Prodigy 3.5” AOS**.
