# New Product Highlight: Sig Sauer P385

Sig NEXT is in full swing, and the belle of the ball (so far) is the all-new **Sig Sauer P385**. No, that’s not a typo.
The new pistol is a fresh take on everything people like about Sig handguns – modularity, variations for everything from concealed carry to competition, and direct-mount optics – without any of the, shall we say, history of certain legacy models.
Let’s figure out what this pistol is, and what it means for the ones we already know and own.

Right from the start, Sig Sauer revealed five variants of this new pistol: the **P385-Carry** and **P385-Comp** are out now. The **P385-Compact**, **P385-Full**, and **P385-Mach3D** are on the way.
The new Fire Control Unit is a new design that features a drop-safe Trigger Block system. At this time, the Sig Sauer website says there are no plans to migrate this trigger to other models.
This lineup includes full-size and compact grip modules, a ported slide like the [**P365-XMacro Comp**](https://www.pewpewtactical.com/sig-sauer-x-macro-comp-review/), and a competition-ready race gun with a barrel-mounted compensator and Recoil Dampening System.
The P385-Compact will come with two 15-round magazines. All others will come with one 17-round mag and one 21-round mag. State-compliant 10-round versions are also available.
Standout features include a low bore axis, slide that’s cut for the Sig-Loc optic footprint, and a new Fire Control Unit. You can get the P385 in black or coyote brown, and all models are compatible with P320 magazines.
Three MagStrap sizes allow owners to customize grip circumference. They even let you change the pistol from compact to full-size without replacing the entire grip module.
At launch, holster availability includes options from ANR, BlackPoint, Safariland, and other manufacturers.
What This Means for the P320 & P365

At the time of writing, Sig Sauer has not made any announcements about how the P385 will affect the P320 and P365.
Let’s read some clues, though.
At first blush, this platform looks like it could replace both existing models. It’s going to be available as a carry gun, duty gun, and competition gun. There’s a lot of overlap. If you use Sig math, I guess P320 + P365 = P385.
But I’m not convinced that’s what Sig Sauer wants. One piece of evidence is overall width. The P385’s width of 1.32 inches is slightly more carry friendly than the P320 (1.4 inches), but noticeably thicker than the svelte P365 (1 inch) on the waistline.
Another hint is Sig's announcement of the new P365-Mach3D.
And then there’s one question at the end of the P385’s FAQ section on Sig Sauer’s website:
“Did Sig Sauer launch the P385 because of the perceived issues with P320?”
“No. The P385 has been in development for years as an opportunity to continuously innovate and develop new products for an evolving market.”
